David was born in Sydney, Australia and spent a lot of time on his father’s sailboat before moving to England to attend boarding school for five years. Returning to Australia he continued sailing while attending Sydney Technical College for Hotel Management. His yachting career started in Greece and continued around the Med. The 86’ ketch that he was on was sold to an American and David had his first trans-Atlantic trip, arriving in Palm Beach, Florida on Christmas Day 1977. David continued as Captain of sailboats throughout the East Coast, Caribbean and Bahamas before making the transition to motor yachts in 1983.
Most of the yachts that he ran were chartered to some of the most interesting people in the world. His guests included a former US President, Senators, Saudi Royalty and other VIPs.
