Marine Welder / Fabricator – Fort Lauderdale 

The Welder Fabricator provides technical assistance in layouts, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifications of equipment, parts, components, and systems according to specifications.

Essential Functions

Welding / Fabricating

  • Performs specialized welding in the areas of aluminum, non-ferrous, and stainless steel; preheating and cleaning metal; laying out, cutting, and fitting materials for welding; welding machinery and equipment; performing cutting and welding operations on structural steel; brazing various non-ferrous and ferrous metals; fabricates, designs, and laying out welded objects
  • Performs any combination of fabricating and assembling boilers and steel plate vessels, such as tanks and vats
  • Moves and positions materials at the work site with the help of other workers, using an overhead bridge crane or dolly

Machinery

  • Tends machines, such as drill press, punch press, and boring mill to drill, punch, and ream metal stock for boiler parts. Tends power shears to cut the plate to size and shape
  • Grinds welded joints, seams, and other irregular areas to smooth boiler surfaces, using portable and pedestal grinders
  • Wraps blanket of spun glass around the shell to insulate boiler and tacks blanket to shell surface, using a stud welding gun
  • Operates sandblasting machine to clean tank surfaces prior to painting or coating [Sandblaster]
  • Operates other power equipment that operates primarily on the basis of welding/fabricating principles
  • Cleans of the area worked on and make vessel ready for further work or departure
  • Inspects equipment, structures, and or materials to identify the cause of problems or defects
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Education, Work Experience, Licenses, and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Years of relevant work experience required: 2 years of welding experience
  • Required licenses or certificates: Not required
  • People Management No
  • Direct reports titles: Welding Manager
